Palin endorsed Forbes, not Buchanan

Republican John McCain's campaign is calling the Democratic party's claim that Sarah Palin supported Pat Buchanan in 2000 -- and therefore can't be trusted by the Jewish community -- a "smear."

Click here to read the campaign's response. The confusion, deliberate or not, comes from an Associated Press story that ran July 17, 1999 amd reported that Palin, then the mayor of Wasilla, was wearing a Buchanan campaign button when he campaigned in the state.

Less than one month later, the AP ran another story saying that Palin would serve on Steve Forbes' leadership committee in Alaska.
