Longtime Miami-Dade GOP chair stepping down

Mary_ellen The longtime chairwoman of the Miami-Dade Republican Party, Mary Ellen Miller, is calling it quits.

Miller has been a fixture in Republican politics since former Gov. Jeb Bush was active in the local party in the mid 1980s.

Miller is throwing her support behind state Rep. David Rivera of Miami, who has served as the county's Republican committeeman. Also in the running is Carlos Curbelo, a political consultant who helped run the successful re-election campaigns of U.S. Reps. Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart.

The election is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 11.
