Bill Nelson: American Idol tryout?

Bill Nelson says he's set aside the traditional wager for Thursday night's FedEx BCS championship game in Miami. Instead of trading state gifts with Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, the two have promised "to croon for the other’s constituents."

If the Oklahoma Sooners beat the University of Florida Gators, Nelson will sing "Oklahoma!" at the Republican Coburn’s next constituent coffee, a traditional weekly meeting between senators and visiting homestate residents.

If the Gators best the Sooners, Coburn will have to sing Elton John’s "Rocket Man" at Nelson’s next constituent coffee -- a reference to the Florida Democrat's trip to space.

"It’s going to be a great game," Nelson said.. "I look forward to hearing Tom sing." No word on whether Nelson is getting any vocal lessons from his daughter, Nan Ellen, an accomplished singer.
