Harry Sargeant of Boca Raton, a college chum of Gov. Charlie Crist accused of war profiteering, has stepped aside as finance chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.
Party Chairman Jim Greer will appoint a replacement. Sargeant faces allegations from competitors and Democrats in Congress over his contract to provide oil to U.S. military forces in Iraq.
In August, Republican presidential nominee John McCain returned $50,000 in questionable contributions bundled by Sargeant and his Jordanian business partner.
