Gus Barreiro, the former Miami Beach state rep. fired from DJJ after pornographic images were found on his work computer, has filed to run for Sen. District 36. The porn images appear to be automatic downloads from whomever surfed on the adultfriendfinders.com website under the login name "cubancigar107." Barreiro, who represented House Dist. 107, said it wasn't him and that he was set up. More here on that.
He apparently filed to run Feb. 13, a day or so after DJJ released its records on Barreiro's alleged indiscretions.
Expect a bruiser of a Republican primary in 2010. Barreiro will face State Rep. Julio Robaina and former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, who hasn't filed yet. He's the brother of incumbent Sen. Alex Diaz de la Portilla, who's (sort of?) leaving office due to term limits. Expect the sen to file for Robaina's House seat.

Julio would be a refreshing change from the DLP mafia. And he wouldn't bring the baggage of the DLP name. Of course, Gus could bring some new and exciting scandal to that Senate seat. That might be fun.
