"This is crazy s--t," the retiring Florida senator told The Hill newspaper this week, knocking down persistent rumors that he might leave his Senate perch before his term is up. "I have nothing to say. This comes up every few weeks."
The paper quotes sources "close to Martinez," saying that he "might very well exit early and is actively looking for jobs for his post-Senate career. They say that if a great opportunity presented itself that required him to resign early, he would do just that."
His office has said previously he has no plans to leave early and pinned the rumors on Tally gossip. The Hill notes an early departure might prove tricky for Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running for the seat but would have to appoint a temp.
