Meek is tops for tobacco

Meek2b_CA0408-250 Democrat U.S. Rep. Kendrick of Meek of Miami is the top recipient of tobacco money in Congress for the 2010 election so far, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Meek, who is running for the U.S. Senate, got $30,800 from the industry in the first three months of this year, the group said. That's more than senators from tobacco states like Republican Sens. MItch McConnell of Kentucky and James DeMint of South Carolina.

The reason: Meek's longstanding ties to the Cuban-American cigar makers in Florida. Read his profile in Cigar Aficianado here.
