Oliphant got a 77 percent pay raise at school district
Miriam Oliphant, Broward's ousted supervisor of elections turned school guidance counselor, got a big fat raise from the school district during her short tenure. But that tenure ended July 1 when Oliphant failed to update her certification.
Oliphant was hired in December 2007 as a substitute teacher earning $14.67 an hour. About two weeks later in January 2008 she was hired as a guidance counselor earning $42,450 a year. In July, her salary rose to $75,200 a year for the same position.
Why the 77 percent raise? It could be that by July Oliphant had submitted documentation showing her 23 years of work experience. Did the school district give her work credit for her elected positions on the school board and as supervisor of elections?
We are awaiting an explanation from the school district.
In 2003, then Gov. Jeb Bush suspended Oliphant from her supervisor of elections job after the botched 2002 election in which polls opened late among other problems.

She sounds like a winner!

I thought guidance counselors had to spend a minimum number of years in the classroom (five, I think), before they can become counselors??? What about that requirement????
