The voice of the Senate is gone.
Sen. Jim King, the former Senate president who was one of the longest-serving lawmakers in the Legislature, died earlier today -- less than three months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 69.
"President King battled his final campaign as he did all others," said family spokeswoman Sarah Bascom. "With a fighter's heart and with humor and humility. Many throughout the state of Florida will feel they are better for having known him."
