The first Sansom legal bill: $101,000

Now that the Florida House has formally hired Melanie Hines to prosecute Ray Sansom, we're reminded that we never reported the final tally for Steve Kahn's work.

Kahn, who was hired by the House to investigate allegations surrounding Sansom, was paid $101,690 for his services, House spokeswoman Jill Chamberlin said Tuesday. Kahn found probable cause that Sansom violated House rules in various ways through his dealings with Northwest Florida State College.

"It is my view that a reasonable person would conclude that his employment was designed primarily to take advantage of his position as Speaker to the benefit of the college and the salary was direct compensation for Representative Sansom's official acts as a member and Speaker on behalf of the college and its President," Kahn wrote in his 75-page report.
