Environment Florida warns new climate bill could mean Florida drilling; asks LeMieux to join Nelson in opposition

Environment Florida is panning the approach senators have taken in a new Senate climate control bill, saying it could lead to drilling off the Florida coast.

"Offshore drilling has no place in a climate bill," said Environment Florida's Adam Rivera. "Drilling means more emissions, and more emissions in a bill designed to reduce emissions is the very definition of a wrong approach.

The group notes that Sen. Bill Nelson has vowed to block any energy and climate bill that includes expanded drilling and urges Sen. George LeMieux to join him -- though LeMieux has said he's not necessarily opposed to drilling -- if Florida gets a cut of the proceeds.

OK, let's see. Offshore drilling provides great volumes of more clean natural gas. But Mr. Rivera prefers to keep burning dirty coal for electric power generation. The "emissions" from offshore drilling are less than a highway truck. On a net/net basis, the benefits to Florida's environment and clean air are obvious: more natural gas could displace dirty coal. And the State would harvest new revenues in the bargain.

the st petersburg times and the miami herald, are both far left newspapers, and in my opinion have left the American people down by not reporting what really is going on at the white house with obama, and re[porting on the people obama has circled himself with, like card carrying communist, supporters of mao ,convicted felons, and tax cheats. the media is helping to destroy our country.

We, as a country, need to take a look at alternative energy coal is bad, so is more drilling. People who discover ways to run cars on water are killed, others are discredited and bankrupted. Let these alternate energy inventions see the light of day such as magnetic generators for electricity and car engines that run on water. We need to advance as a species and letting big money control energy is not the way.
