Meek's primary rival says he likes the war bond idea

But Maurice Ferre says, Meek's call for war bonds to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan underscores his belief that the war in Afghanistan is "a futile war.

"It's a good gesture, I think if nothing else what it does is put the country on notice that we're at war and we're not paying for it," said Ferre, who last week criticized Meek for backing President Barack Obama's plans to escalate the war. "It points to the reality of the fact that we're borrowing from China to pay for a war that doesn't look like it can be won."
