This isn't a shock but worth noting: Delmar Johnson, executive director of the Republican Party of Florida, is leaving on Feb. 1. Chairman Jim Greer is stepping down on Feb. 20 after months of controversy over his leadership.
"It's been a rough year,'' Johnson said. He added: "Whoever is the next chair should have the chance to pick their own executive director and staff.''
Johnson has worked at the state party since Greer's election in early 2007 and served as executive director for the past year. He's been a loyal Greer lieutenant but has kept up his good humor and upbeat disposition through it all. "If you don't like Delmar, you don't like life,'' Greer once said.
Most of the party staff will be "transitioning'' to other jobs. Johnson, 30, said he is pursuing other opportunities where no doubt he will "keep defending freedom,'' as he liked to say.
