Jeb endorses Atwater in light GOP contest

Former Gov. Jeb Bush today endorsed Senate President Jeff Atwater of North Palm Beach, who is seeking the Republican nod for chief financial officer against state Rep. Pat Patterson of Deland. Atwater last week drew another opponent when former Tallahassee state Rep. Loranne Ausley announced she will seek the Democratic nomination for the job.

"It's his life experience of being a committed family person, of being a successful business man and also having served in positions of increasing responsibility in the Florida legislature that have made Jeff uniquely qualified to handle this job," Bush said in a statement. "A good chief financial officer, without stopping the wheels of progress in government, can be a watchdog of the taxpayer's money. And I know Jeff Atwater will do a fantastic job in that regard."

Atwater has $1.5 million in the bank for his campaign and Patterson has $48,000 for his. The campaign also released a video of the Bush endorsement.
