Kathy Castor and Bill Nelson Tuesday will kick off a campaign to encourage Floridians to contact the White House in support of the state’s high-speed rail application.
Castor said she's leading the Florida congressional delegation’s effort to secure up to $2.5 billion in federal stimulus dollars for high-speed rail in Florida. The Tampa Democrat last week wrote to President
Obama, "urging him to award Florida money for high-speed rail lines. Castor said the state’s application is technically top notch, and the state needs a high-speed rail award to boost the economy and create jobs."
The event is coordinated with ConnectUs, a coalition of business, labor and environmental groups that are working together to support Florida’s high-speed rail application. The competition for the dollars is stiff: California and several states in the Midwest are eager for a share as well.
