Third candidate files for School Board post

Stewart "Stew" Jackson Webster filed to run for Stephanie Kraft's seat on the Broward School Board on Wednesday, a day after Kraft said she will not seek reelection to her post.

Webster is the third person up for the job. High school teacher Dave Thomas had filed last year, and parent volunteer and lawyer Shelly Heller put in her papers for the position on Tuesday.

The contest to fill Kraft's seat is quickly becoming the most interesting of the five School Board races. It will probably the only race without an incumbent running. Earlier Wednesday, lobbyist Ron Book said his daughter, Lauren Book, is also considering a run for Kraft's post.

Webster could not immediately be reached on the phone, but he appears to be the same person who ran in 2006 for the seat that eventually went to board member Phyllis Hope. In his filing with the Broward Supervisor of Elections, Webster lists a Coral Springs address, which would fall in the northwest Broward district Kraft represents.
