McCollum: investigate RPOF 'mess?' Nah.

Attorney General Bill McCollum said he wants to wait on an audit of Republican Party of Florida finances before he decides to "assist... in directing these findings to the appropriate law enforcement investigatory agency."

Translation: Not my problem.Yet.

The statement: In just nine days, the State Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Florida will elect a new Chairman. I’m proud to support Senator John Thrasher for the post and know he will provide the steady and trustworthy leadership needed to move our Party beyond this tumultuous period.

In my discussions with Senator Thrasher, he’s made it clear that his first order of business will be overseeing a thorough and exhaustive audit of party finances, including a full review of expenditures and fiscal management practices.

I share the outrage over recent revelations of extravagant contracts and lavish spending. If audit findings suggest potential criminal activity, I will assist the State Executive Committee in directing these findings to the appropriate law enforcement investigatory agency.

The old way of doing business at the Republican Party of Florida enabled an egregious and unforgivable violation of trust between Party leadership and our membership. Now it is time to clean up the mess. I support taking every measure possible to ensure we never again face the challenges before us today.

Under the leadership of Senator Thrasher, I look forward to a new day for the Republican Party in the Sunshine State. Most importantly, it is time to return to our core mission – electing Republican candidates at the ballot box.
