He's already appeared with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, has a photo op this afternoon with US Trade Representative Ron Kirk and an appointment at the White House Wednesday with President Barack Obama.
Now comes word that Haitian President Rene Preval will meet Wednesday with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell. The administration is said to be readying an emergency budget request for Haiti that could reach $3 billion so Preval will need all the support on the Hill he can get.
He told Clinton today he wanted to share his "deepest thanks" to the American people for helping Haiti. The U.S. government has contributed more than $700 million in aid and Clinton said that nearly one half of all U.S. households have contributed to private relief efforts.
