A stab at bipartisanship -- Ron Klein and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen target Medicare fraud

Miami Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Boca Dem Ron Klein today will unveil bipartisan legislation aimed at Medicare fraud at a senior center in Miami-Dade, widely regarded as the nation's capital of healthcare fraud.

The cost to taxpayers in the county alone runs between $3 billion and $4 billion annually, according to law enforcement and healthcare officials. The expense of Medicare fraud nationwide is estimated to be as high as $60 billion yearly.

Despite their sharp differences over President Barack Obama's victorious healthcare reform legislation, the South Florida duo will jointly urge Congress to support tougher criminal penalties for those caught stealing from the nation's entitlement program for the elderly and disabled.
