David Rivera: On the Republican radar

The National Republican Congressional Committee has named David Rivera as one of its "On the Radar" candidates, a first step in its Young Guns program -- which targets and helps GOP candidates.

Rivera who is running for the seat being vacated by Mario Diaz-Balart, has raised $700,000 for his bid and his campaign says the new "Radar" status shows he's "already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve important fundraising goals.

"The NRCC is committed to working with David Rivera as he continues to meet the rigorous goals of the Young Guns program,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions.
