David Rivera's cash haul: $700k

House appropriations chief David Rivera proudly announced by email this morning that his congressional campaign hauled in $700k. Legislators are banned from raising money during the lawmaking session -- unless they're running for federal office.

It's easy to raise this sort of pile of cash when Rivera's sitting as chair of the House Appropriations committee.

All the lobbyists who have budget cuts or payoffs at stake are paying him now, via contributions to his Congressional campaign, so he won't punish them in the House's budget for next year.

It appears this lamprey is sucking on the big fish swimming in the sordid political swamp.
