Broward County Mayor Ken Keechl, a Democrat, has now raised nearly $350,000 toward his reelection including nearly $17,000 for the first three months of the year. During the past quarter, he spent about $90,000 -- much of that on ads, direct mail and consultants.
Keechl faced heat in past quarters for spending more than $100,000 before he had an opponent -- including for meals, out of state travel and $3,100 in monthly office rent to his partner. His most recent quarter does not list any out of state travel though it includes a $219.88 tab for a Hilton in St. Petersburg. Keechl said in an interview that was for attending a Florida GLBT Democratic Caucus event where he said he spoke.
Beverly Kennedy recently filed as a Democrat to run against Keechl -- her seventh race.
