Kendrick Meek hails Deutch's Dem win

As a harbinger of good fortune? Florida Democratic state Sen. Ted Deutch easily dispatched a GOP challenger who tried to use the backlash over health care reform to land the seat to replace the retired Rep. Robert Wexler.

That could be a good sign for Democratic Senate candidate Meek -- whom Republicans have started to slam for voting for the health care bill: "Ted worked hard throughout this race, and his constituents have elected a public servant who will fight for their interests in Washington and against the special interests," Meek said in a statement.

Democrats in the Palm Beach-Broward district outnumber Republicans by more than 2 to 1. But MSNBC's First Read called it "pretty significant" that seniors, "the demographic group Obama has struggled with -- overwhelmingly stuck with the Democrat."
