Eight of the candidates vying for Kendrick Meek's congressional seat touted their credentials as average Joes and Janes -- while stressing their smarts to create jobs and tackle thorny economic problems -- at their first major forum Wednesday night.
Twelve candidates have filed to run in the predominantly black and heavily Democratic 17th Congressional District, which Meek is leaving to run for U.S. Senate. The district stretches from Overtown to Pembroke Pines.
