Beverly Gallagher, the former Broward School Board member convicted of a federal bribery charge, was sentenced Wednesday to three years and one month in prison.
A repentant Gallagher apologized and said she had let down her family, friends and constituents.
"I've embarrassed myself," said Gallagher, who was crying. "I've embarrassed my family, my children, my parents...The embarrassment, I can't stand it.
"Over the past couple years I've really turned into a Beverly I didn't recognize."
Gallagher was arrested last year as part of a sweeping FBI corruption sting that rocked Broward politics. Also arrested that day in separate cases were former Broward County Commissioner Joe Eggelletion, who is serving a sentence of two-and-a-half years for money laundering, and former Miramar City Commissioner Fitzroy Salesman, who faces sentencing next month. All three are Democrats.
