The New York Times reports that West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin will name his former general counsel, Carte Goodwin, to temporarily fill the United States Senate seat of the late Robert Byrd.
Goodwin would hold the seat until November, when a special election would be held. Manchin is expected to be a candidate.
"At 36," says the Times, "Mr. Goodwin would become the youngest member of the Senate, replacing George LeMieux of Florida, 41, himself an interim senator."
