White House spokesman Bill Burton today defended the president's two day trip to Panama City this coming weekend, saying the president has been to the Gulf, along with the First Lady and the vice president -- "more than half a dozen times so far.
"The president is deeply commited to the folks in the Gulf region, making sure we do everything we can to make sure that the people of that region are made whole again ... and to make sure the oil is cleaned up and the Gulf region is restored," Burton said. "No one should doubt the president's commitment to that. He looks forward to going down to Florida, spending a little more time on the Gulf, eating a little more shrimp and spending some time with the good folks who live there."
