He just thanked the Florida Republican for being one of two GOP'ers to help Democrats overcome a Republican filibuster and advance a bill aimed at helping small businesses.
"I want to thank them for their efforts," Obama said of LeMieux and Ohio Republican Sen. George Voinovich. "They understand we simply don't have time anymore to play games."
Obama is also decrying Republicans for insisting that Bush era tax cuts be extended for the wealthiest. But he won't have LeMieux's vote on that effort. He wants all the tax cuts to be extended.
"It doesn’t make any sense to raise taxes during a recession," LeMieux said. "It doesn’t make any sense to raise capital gains taxes and create a chill on investment. It doesn’t make sense to raise taxes on small business people who create two out of every three jobs in this country, and even more than that in Florida. Working together to extend the current tax policy would be good for Florida and good for the country."
