Democrat gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink will add a rare two-minute TV ad to the ongoing battle over the airwaves. Her new spot will air during local news broadcasts in the Tampa area on Wednesday, her campaign announced Sunday.
Sink's campaign said the ad is a response to Republican Rick Scott's "deceitful and misleading attacks on Sink's honesty and integrity."
Sounds like a tough ad. We'll see how well it squares with the claim Sink made to open up her TV campaign that she had had "just about enough of politicians attacking each other."
Sink will unveil the ad during a morning press conference Monday at her campaign headquarters in Tampa, where she'll be joined by local law enforcement.
Scott curiously declared in their debate Friday that Sink -- endorsed by both the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police -- did not have the support of law enforcement.
Scott referred viewers to FactsForFlorida.com to back up his claims. But there is no mention of law enforcement on that website. What Scott meant is that Sink has union support, not the support of all law enforcement officials, campaign spokesman Chad Colby said Sunday.
To that end, Scott has his own law enforcement event on Monday. He's in Sanford for what his campaign is promoting as a Florida Law Enforcement Trusts Rick Scott Statement & Photo Opportunity.
Scott will be joined by several sheriffs, his campaign said, including Bob White of Pasco, Jim Coats of Pinelles, John Rutherford of Duval, Don Eslinger of Seminole and Ben Johnson of Volusia.
**We should note here that extended-play TV ads are rare, but not unprecedented. President Obama aired a 30-minute advertisement in 2008. In New York last week, Republican Carl Paladino aired a three-minute spot hoping to spark his campaign for governor.
