The newly elected Broward Republican is beginning to pull his team together, naming conservative radio talk show host Joyce Kaufman chief of staff. Campaign manager Josh Grodin will be deputy chief of staff.
Kaufman -- whom the Herald says was a "singer, dancer and teacher" before becoming a radio host in 1971 -- told listeners today that she is "going to be a part of history" along with West, whom she called a "formidable warrior." She said she still plans to be a frequent presence on radio. The station agrees: "Joyce Kaufman becomes a Washington insider," its website says. "FTL is proud of their midday drive talk host as she goes into the belly of the beast to report to us live from DC! While Joyce has accepted a position on the staff of Congressman-Elect Allen West, CD 22', she has been retained as our Washington correspondent, with details on her new exciting schedule to be announced soon...keep listening for details."
Kaufman, a self-described "big supporter of the second amendment" -- told listeners she didn't "know what I'm going to do in DC" -- where hand guns were banned until recently.
According to her profile on WFTL, Kaufman has been a fixture on South Florida radio "for nearly 20 years without interruption...Joyce considers herself fiercely independent and is not ashamed of putting America first, like real liberals used to and our weak-kneed politicians and some so-called conservatives claim to. She has been evolving into an outspoken critic of the 'new-left' who she believes view America as a failed state populated with a helpless, ignorant people in need of reeducation and government rescue. She is also sick and tired of those in power who are afraid to stand up for our nation's Judeo-Christian values and the values of those who, through their faith, seek only to better themselves and their fellow man.
"Joyce still finds America to be the greatest country on earth! She not only supports our troops, she reveres them. She's also a registered Independent so if you're looking for a partisan cheerleader, call the Miami Heat Dancers.
"Passionate, spiritual, yet angry at times, Joyce also knows how to make an audience laugh. But don't mess with her. She knows some Krav Maga, carries a .357 magnum (she's a big supporter of the second amendment) and has a BIG mouth."
