Marco Rubio backs DeMint when it comes to banning earmarks

Marco Rubio has already said he looks forward to serving under Republican Leader Mitch McConnell -- not mentioning Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, viewed as the more ideologically pure conservative and alternative power center.

But the Miami Republican is championing DeMint's effort to ban earmarks (though McConnell is said to be opposed to the move) DeMint has rounded up half of the freshman class of Senate Republicans to cosponsor his proposal, including Rubio and another Tea Party-affiliated senator-elect, Rand Paul of Kentucky.

DeMint is pushing for a vote next week.
