In 2005, Frederica Wilson was a state senator with a soft spot for abused foster children when she helped bring renewed attention to efforts to find the culprit behind the 2000 rape and strangulation of Cynteria Phillips.
So the now-U.S. Representative was thrilled to hear that investigators have charged a man they believe is responsible for the crime.
"After years and years, justice is finally being served," Wilson said. "Cynteria was an innocent little girl who was viciously and repeatedly abused by predators and disregarded by the foster care system. No one was interested in her welfare until it was too late. It is such an incredible feeling to know that one more monster is now off the streets."

After years and years, justice is finally being served.
