Connie Mack to announce U.S. Senate bid plans Friday

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack sure sounds like he's going to run for U.S. Senate. His office sent out a press release said he'll make a "major announcement" on whether to challenge "liberal" U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson. The even is at 10 a.m. Friday on the steps of the Old Lee County Courthouse.

If he runs, he'll face former "Freedom Caucus" member Mike Haridopolos, the current Florida Senate president. Another caucus member from back in the day (02-04) of the Florida House, former Rep. Adam Hasner, has opened an exploratory committee and will probably run. All are Republicans.

Former Crist-appointee to the Senate, George LeMieux, is considering a bid. The chances of him running increase as the number of more-conservative-than-thou Republicans increase.

Mike McCallister, former vet and one-time gubernatorial candidate, is also running.
