During last week's discussion about a bill that would prohibit governments from deducting union dues from a worker's paycheck, state Rep. Scott Randolph, D-Orlando, used his time during floor debate to argue that Republicans are against regulations -- except when it comes to the little guys, or serves their specific interests.
At one point Randolph suggested that his wife "incorporate her uterus" to stop Republicans from pushing measures that would restrict abortions. Republicans, after all, wouldn't want to further regulate a Florida business.
Apparently the GOP leadership of the House didn't like the one-liner.
They told Democrats that Randolph is not to discuss body parts on the House floor.
"The point was that Republicans are always talking about deregulation and big government," Randolph said Thursday. "And I always say their philosophy is small government for the big guy and big government for the little guy. And so, if my wife's uterus was incorporated or my friend's bedroom was incorporated, maybe they (Republicans) would be talking about deregulating.
"It's not like I used slang," said Randolph, who actually got the line from his wife. He said Republicans voiced concern about young pages hearing the word uterus.
"I think it's a sad commentary about what we think about sex education in the state," he said.

Um, What's a uterus?

Maybe one day Americans will be scolded for saying Republican. Hopefully that will be a bad word in the future.

Maybe they thougt he was saying you too or us and felt threatened by the suggestion that she might be incorporating (also confused simiar sounding word describing sexual act) with him or his Republican friends. Never underestimate the stupidity of a politician--especially a Republican.

In my book "Republican" has already become a bad name for someone who hates children, the middle class, and all public employees.

"If only my uterus was a corporation" was the sign I held at Awake the State in Miami. : ) And yes, I know that grammatically it should be 'were'.

And for heaven's sake don't even whisper the word "Santorum" -- a very naughty word brought back into general usage in honor of well-known GOP scold and all around pest Rick Santorum.

You have to be joking! The Republicans in Ocala and preachers are displaying pictures of fetus in the uterus on the streets of Ocala! Need I say more?

don't forget the irony of their attempt to regulate your speech

And these great minds want to be in control of a women's reproduction??? They must still believe that babies are brought by the stork. Unbelievable!

is it not obvious that the Republican/tea party people have just lost it. If they had thier way, we would all be requried to go to church every Sunday with men on one side and women on the other and burn an witch every once in a while.
Notice how quick there are to cut off critisim when it's agianst them but will never let up on the opposing side

Regulating the uteris of every Floridian is 1. NOT small government. 2. NOT freedom. 3. NOT American. This is how the Libyans feel about their government. The election campaign was 'Jobs and 'Deficit reduction'. No-one voted for this.

How idiotic can someone be? The word uterus is no more racy than the term "thumb". It is the proper name for a part of the female body that the mostly male republicans are trying to control. Get out of my uterus!!!!!

The name of a body part that happens to house growing fetus' is taboo? Too awful to mention?
And yet these same offended people speak incessantly (and obsessively) about extracting those same fetus' out of those same uterus' with no problem at all.
I look forward to the day when common sense and sanity finally prevail in FL government *sigh*

Perhaps these same GOP's will, for their greed and big money interests, reverse their passion for life that begins with conception and ends with a fetus... and start an Abortion Mill somewhere out of the country so as not to offend the Religious Right charging huge amounts of cash and selling stock in this new off shore company. Better to raise dollars, as a corporate donor, for politicians who pass the Crazy Test...

Remove their uvulas.

Somehow, the Republicans had no problem discussing body parts when they were trying to get President Clinton out of the White House. Funny how that works.

Oh come on, doesn't everyone get a little squirmish about words like uterus?
(Yes, I'm being sarcastic.)

I'm a conservative and agree with "David" above who said: This is "1. NOT small government. 2. NOT freedom. 3. NOT American. This is how the Libyans feel about their government. The election campaign was 'Jobs and 'Deficit reduction'. No-one voted for this".
To my fellow republicans and my former fellow democrats, stop the petty BS and get down to the business of running our state, our nation. Stop spending OUR money stupidly, stop making decisions that any half brained business man wouldn't make, stop making decisions based on what will get you re-elected. Just do the right thing.
Stay out of people's bodies, stay out of their marriages and life partnerships, stay out of our bedrooms and we'll stay out of your bathroom stalls and hotel rooms. You guys were elected by We The People to Represent US, not your political party, but US, the people in your neighborhood. I don't agree with political parties, I believe in my neighbors and my community, which is what I sent you up there to represent.
Stop acting like a bunch of frikkin children who are offended at hearing the name of any anatomical part or a bad word, and get down to doing our business.
1. Smaller government
2. Spend less money
3. Allow us to do business with less red tape and taxes
4. stop playing politics with our personal lives and relationships.
'nuff said

Uterus Inc. YEAH!!!

The GOP approach to women's control over their bodies doesn't even allow for freedom of speech in Florida, apparently.
