The incoming chair of the Democratic National Committee is in Miami today where she and Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado are joining a national campaign to tighten background checks for obtaining guns.
The pair noted that 6 of the last 22 recent fatal law enforcement shootings have occurred in Florida -- all committed by individuals who should have been legally prohibited from purchasing guns.
The event is part of the Fix Gun Check eight day tour through Florida. The campaign says nearly 13,000 Floridians and 250,000 Americans have signed a petition supporting a proposal to keep firearms from what it calls "dangerous individuals." The Fix Gun Checks Truck was launched after the Tucson shootings by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bi-partisan coalition of more than 550 mayors, including 33 in Florida.

"all committed by individuals who should have been legally prohibited from purchasing guns."
Did they obtain them legally? This statement does not make it clear.

they passed background checks, but shouldn't have. the only reason their purchase went through was because state and federal agencies did not submit the proper records.
