Changes filed to controversial immigration bill

No amendments have been made public yet to make the changes to a contentious immigration crackdown bill Senate President Mike Haridopolos says he wants to see. But Sen. Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, has filed three other proposed tweaks to SB 2040.

Garcia's amendments would make a business lose its occupational license and be barred from entering into any state or local government contracts if it hires undocumented immigrants. Businesses would also face a $5,000 civil fine for every undocumented immigrant it employs.
