Dems target Allen West on Medicare vote

You might want to check caller ID. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today launched a new round of automated phone calls, targeting House Republicans who voted for for backing the controversial GOP Medicare plan.

The DCCC is hitting Allen West as part of the campaign with the calls suggesting that for those between 44 and 54, the Republican budget plan "would result in these people needing an additional $182,000 in retirement savings to pay for their health care.' The DCCC notes that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich opposed the plan, calling it "radical" and "too big a jump."

Text of the automated phone calls targeting West after the jump. Florida Reps. Steve Southerland and Bill Young are also being targeted.

"Hi, I’m calling from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee calling about Congressman Allen West’s vote to end Medicare.

"You’ve paid into Medicare for more than 25 years and deserve the Medicare benefits you’ve earned. Under the West plan, Medicare ends and you’ll have to save about $182,000 more to pay for your health care. Where will you get $182,000?

"Everyone agrees we must cut spending and tighten our belt, but West has made the wrong choice.  Ending Medicare to pay for subsidies for Big Oil making huge profits or tax breaks for the ultra rich!  That’s not right. Please call Congressman West at (954) 202-6211 and tell him to keep his hands off our Medicare!"

The DCCC previously ran radio ads, automated phone calls, live phone calls, and e-mails in targeted Republican districts on this issue.
