As reported by our colleagues at the St. Petersburg Times, speculation is that George LeMieux's Twitter fundraising fauxpaugh related to Florida Power & Light and the head of its parent company, NextEra.
Indeed, our sources remind us that Ed Tancer left FPL last October and the CEO of NextEra, Lewis Hay, helped him find a landing spot at LeMieux's law firm, Gunster Yoakley. Tancer was hired there in March and began his tenure in April. Would it be possible that the company will be contributing $100,000 in soft money to the Republican Party or LeMieux's PAC as part of an ongoing gift of appreciation?
FPL and NextEra know how to play the campaign money game. It gave $4 million alone to legislative political coffers and the Florida Republican party in the last cycle and was one of the top contributors to the party in the quarter that ended in June.
