Emily's List announced today that it has endorsed Democrat and former state legislator Lois Frankel in her race against Congressman Allen West (R-Plantation).
She is among five women who are the first 2012 House challengers to move from "On the List" to a full endorsement, according to a press release from Emily's List, an organization that raises millions of dollars to support pro-choice female candidates.
Frankel will face Democratic primary opponent Patrick Murphy, a businessman who has been leading the pack among House challengers nationwide for fundraising.
From the press release:
“Across the country, women are leading the way back for Democrats,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “2011 has been a big year for women; we have seen Kathy Hochul in New York, Janice Hahn in California and the determination of the women candidates in Wisconsin who all stood up to the GOP’s war on women. The momentum generated by the strong candidacies of Democratic women is carrying straight through to 2012.
“Tammy Duckworth, Lois Frankel, Annie Kuster, Ann Kirkpatrick and Christy Vilsack represent five key districts to winning back the House next November. These five strong Democratic women are running fantastic campaigns, getting voters energized and are eager to bring their voices to Washington. EMILY’s List couldn’t be more thrilled to throw our full support behind them help make 2012 another ‘Year of the Woman’.”
