Mel Martinez endorses Mitt Romney

Mel Martinez, the former Florida GOP senator, backed Mitt Romney for president on Monday. Martinez, who left office in 2009, backed John McCain in 2008 (and not Romney).

Here's the press release:

Boston, MA – Mitt Romney today announced the support of former Florida Senator Mel Martinez. Senator Martinez will serve as Chairman of the campaign's National Advisory Council.

“I am honored to count former Senator Martinez as an ally,” saidMitt Romney. “The support of Florida voters will be critical and I look forward to working with him to turn this economy around.”

Announcing his support, Senator Martinez said, “I have great confidence that Mitt Romney is the candidate to get our country back on track. Unemployment remains a pressing issue both in Florida and across the nation. Now more than ever, we need a leader who will get our country’s fiscal house in order. From his experience in the private sector, Mitt Romney understands how the real economy works and how jobs are created. As Governor of Massachusetts, he balanced the budget without raising taxes. I am proud to support him."

I can't believe I was pushing you as the best GOP candidate this morning. Then, I see Mel Martinez is working on your campaign? Oh my, I can't have that. Immigration is central to this campaign and we can't have anyone who is promoting amnesty in any form. Looks like I'm going to have to vote Cain in the Primary at least. You really are a disappointment Mitt.

Bill Rodman

Mitt's strong stand against illegal immigration is undisputed. The fact of the Martinez endorsement does not change that. If Mitt was endorsing Martinez, the former writer would have a point.

Stop beating up each other - Inform the people what you will do within the first 30 days after assuming office.
We need straight talk.

I thought Martinez would at least have the decency to return to Cuba after he was a traitor to the people who voted for him.....

I agree with all who are appalled by Mitt choosing Mel Martinez as the Chair of his National Advisory Council. Martinez is Pro Amnesty and is no friend of Florida conservatives.

Also, Mitt is half off target by only attacking Perry on in state tuition for Illegals. Every foreign college student in the USA is supposed to have a valid student visa issued by the U.S. State Dept. in their country of origin.

Further, Perry says that he wants them to be productively employed. Where? Mexico? None can be legally employed in the USA !!

My voting experience: I voted for Ron Paul today, so sad. The election worker asked what is your party affiliation and with sadness in my heart, I replied Republican. My ancestors fought in the Civil war for the North, they lived in Tennessee and my family has been staunch Republicans since that time. I was ashamed to say that I am a Republican, that was the first time in my life that I have been ashamed to be a Republican. The real reason I am so sad, our great Country is going down the tubes and I will gladly work night and day to be a proud Republican again and bring our County back to the vision that our Founding Fathers envisioned.

Another GOPe pig feeding at the big government trough!

Hey, Mel, you can't put lipstick on that Etch-a-sketch pig!

There is no choice between socialist corruption and Wall Street plunder.

Take your Tokyo Rove Bush-wacking BS somewhere else.

Obama wins, conservatives are staying home. The GOPe doesn't represent us and never will.

The party is over! The GOP stands for "Good Old Progressives" are us!
