But, alas, actress Sofia Vergara's boyfriend, tall-dark-and-handsome Delray Beach millionaire Nick Loeb, won't run for the seat. That would leave U.S. Rep. Connie Mack and former state House Republican leader Adam Hasner as the reigning telegenic candidates in the race.
"Our political system has become so polarizing and divisive," said Loeb at a press conference, calling for new ideas and new people to enter politics.
"I have the passion. I have the drive," Loeb said. "But the job of U.S. Senator requires physical and mental commitment."
Loeb's reason for not running: His health. Loeb was in a bad car accident in 2010, and running a statewide race would be too grueling.
But that doesn't mean he can't run a state Senate race. And there's already some buzz about that. Loeb, a former candidate for Hasner's old state House seat and for Delray Beach city commission, lives in Republican Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff's district. Last night, as news of today's presser broke, her former aide noted that there's talk about Loeb running for a state Senate seat. Would he run against Bogdanoff?
Loeb said he'd run for another office in the future.
"It will depend on my physical ability," he said, noting it will be more than a year to run because he's still in pain and on medication.
