Conservative critics have hammered Newt Gingrich for attacking Mitt Romney's time as a venture capitalist at Bain Capital, which made money on occasion by downsizing companies and therefore laying people off.
But Gingrich's message could have resonance in Florida, where the unemployment rate is higher than the national average and the "bitter politics of envy" -- a Romney line -- could find fertile soil.
It's certainly a worry to the Romney campaign and the pro-Romney SuperPac Restore Our Future. The PAC is running a 30-second spot called "Desperate" that defends Romney's record and attacks Gingrich. The spot is running in Tampa, where a tipster spied it. Until now, the ad was just running in South Carolina.
Romney's campaign is running this spot in Tampa as well
Here's the ad from the pro-Gingrich PAC, Winning Our Future, that whacks Romney's time at Bain. It's not running in Florida. Yet. Here's a trailer of a 28-minute video from the PAC, which Gingrich has actually criticized because it has inaccuracies.
