Before visiting Wings Plus in Coral Springs Sunday, Republican presidential primary hopeful Sen. Rick Santorum, who came in third Saturday in South Carolina, made a stop at the Worldwide Christian Center in Pompano Beach.
The church is home to the Rev. O'Neal Dozier, who in 2006 made headlines for calling Islam a "cult" and a "dangerous religion" -- a position he later renounced.
Still, the remarks had political consequences: He was forced to step down from the statewide commission nominating judges in Broward -- a post he had been appointed to by former Gov. Jeb Bush -- and then-gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist had Dozier removed from his campaign committees.
Dozier also notably backed former Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle when Naugle made controversial remarks that riled the city's gay community.
"This race is just starting," Santorum told them before going into the church, according to the Palm Beach Post. The Sun-Sentinel has short video here.

Rick Santorum is the consistent conservative in this race. While Mitt Romney supported the bailout of banks, Senator Santorum opposed it. While Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney supported an individual mandate to purchase health insurance, Rick Santorum has always opposed it. There is a clear contrast in this race.

Rick Santorum is clearly the best candidate in the race. He will do a great job of restoring America to its glory.
