As tensions continued to swirl behind the scenes because of the leadership fight in the Florida Senate, the Senate president pro tempore had an idea for some levity. Neckwear.
Sen. Mike Bennett, R-Sarasota, gave ties to five of his colleagues that reads in Latin: “Non illegitimi carborundum.” Translation: Don't let the bastards grind you down.
Wearing the fashionable neckwear today: Senate President Mike Haridopolos, Rules Chairman John Thrasher, Budget Chairman JD Alexander, Sens. Garrett Richter of Naples, Don Gaetz of Fort Walton Beach and Bennett.
"Sen. Bennett came to me last night and said, 'Hey, I've got a tie for you,''' Richter said. With the session nearing a close, Bennett wanted to lighten things up, Richter said. He joked that Bennett couldn't afford 40 ties - for every senator -- so he handed them to some of the chamber's Republican leadership.
The tie, featuring gold lions, red latin script and a blue background sells for $44.95 on Amazon.

This august group receiving silk ties from their colleague should consider that most of the people of Florida might be happier if those neckties were actually made of half inch thick hemp rope and attached to the back bumper of a DOC transport van.

Ah, a fine comment above, from no doubt, one of the redneck prison guards that believes in dragging felons behind vehicles.
