Three Diaz de la Portilla brothers in the Florida Legislature...at the same time?

Looks like all three Miami Republican Diaz de la Portilla brothers -- Alex, Miguel and Renier -- hope to be on the ballot this fall seeking seats in the Florida Legislature at the same time.

Miguel, a state senator, is running for reelection. Renier, a Miami-Dade School Board members and former state representative, is running for the Florida House. And Alex, according to paperwork he submitted last week, is also running for a different House seat. (The Florida Division of Elections has misspelled his name "Diaz de la Portillia.")

After being term limited out of the Senate in 2010 -- his brother Miguel took his seat -- Alex Diaz de la Portilla flirted with vying for the Congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, who jumped to his own brother Lincoln's old seat. Diaz de la Portilla ultimately decided against it -- now-Congressman David Rivera ran instead -- but early polls showed Diaz de la Portilla had significant name recognition.

No surprise there: Diaz de la Portilla was first a state representative, as was his brother Renier. And Miguel Diaz de la Portilla is a former Miami-Dade county commissioner who twice ran for mayor.

More recently, Alex Diaz de la Portilla helped Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez's campaign.
