Poll: Fla. Gov. Rick Scott unpopular, but strong support for voter purge

After 18 months as governor, Rick Scott remains personally unpopular with a majority of Floridians, according to a new Tampa Bay Times/Miami Herald/Bay News 9 poll.

But despite voters’ displeasure with Scott, they strongly support his efforts to rid Florida’s voter rolls of noncitizens in this presidential election year.

The latest survey by the nonpartisan Mason-Dixon Polling & Research of Jacksonville shows that 51 percent of voters disapprove of Scott’s job performance and 40 percent approve, with 9 percent not sure.

Scott’s positive name recognition also remains low, with 29 percent of voters viewing him favorably, 37 percent unfavorably, 30 percent neutral and 4 percent with no opinion, despite his people-friendly work days, blitz of ceremonial bill signings and frequent visits to high-profile, cable TV shows.

"I like some of his ideas and I don’t care for others," said Josephine Boyington, 64, of Lake City, a Democrat who says she’s leaning toward becoming a Republican. "I liked the idea when he said that the people that were on welfare had to provide drug testing. That would get rid of some of the riff-raff."

Just more blah, blah, blah ... from the pro-government, pro-tax, pro-spend leftists among us.

Face it, the reality is that most Floridians are sane citizens and understand the basic notion that the only voters who should cast votes are:

a) citizens, and
b) who have not disqualified themselves by committing crimes or who are not mentally unfit.

Why are the radical Democrats so afraid of checking the voter rolls for ineligibles, especially aliens?

The Kid

How does committing a crime disqualify you, if you don't mind me asking? Also, what counts as "mentally unfit?" Are you saying there should be literacy tests?

I have no problem with the voter purge as long as its done responsibly and with a decently accurate list, which it sounds like we finally have created.

if one has a felony conviction and is not allowed to vote then they should not have to pay any taxes for the elected officials either.I hope this comment angers you

The fact that he wants to do away with public education does not count? The fact that he let's drug clinics operate shamelessly was not polled? How about his company's involvement with medicare fraud?

Of course if the polling question is asked as "do you agree that non-citizens should be purged from voter rolls," most questioned will agree with the statement. One, it satisfies
any xenophobic inclinations Florida residents might have__which is most of the state, and secondly, it is just common sense that non-citizens should not vote.

The reason Floridians do not like Scott is because of his POLICIES! Personality, who cares? The people of Florida need better education for their children, jobs, protection from insurance industry profiteers, crackdowns on corruption, etc. Who needs charisma?
