Debbie Wasserman Schultz called out by CNN's Anderson Cooper

DNC Chair and Broward Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz got called out today by CNN's Anderson Cooper over she misquoted a Los Angeles Times story regarding Mitt Romney’s stance on the Republican Party’s abortion platform plank.

Wasserman Schultz had said: "The Los Angeles Times’ reported yesterday that the platform was, and I quote, ‘written at the direction of Romney’s campaign.’

But Cooper said the quote “was ripped, in fact, out of a sentence.” The real LA Times piece said: “Delegates for presumptive nominee Mitt Romney are voting down substantive changes to the platform language that was written at the direction of Romney’s campaign.”

Cooper: “Do you at least acknowledge that the quote that you gave from The L.A. Times is completely incorrect?”

DWS: “No, I don’t acknowledge that. I know that is what you’re saying,... Anderson, what I’m saying is, it doesn’t matter.”

Cooper: “I think what you say does matter.. You’re quoting the LA Times and, again, you’ve misquoted them to back up a position."

Anderson , Anderson she tried to treat you like a child misbehaving ...

DJS

DWS made a complete spectacle of herself on Anderson Cooper. She seems to think nothing of bald faced lying even when completely exposed. Do people really think stuff like this will be helpful to Obama's campaign? Personally, as an independent, it's a complete turn off. Both sides obviously spin the truth, but this woman continues to hit new lows. Democrats should be distancing themselves from this embarrassing shrew. And voters should run in the other direction.

Scott Olson

It was so nice to see real journalism in action as I'm so sick in tired of lying polititions and journalists! Hats off to Anderson Cooper!!

Solita

She was misunderstood. Who can blame this dedicated woman-she has been working 24/7. Cooper loves drama.

John

Please Solita, please. If she's been working 24/7 it's to stay up nights and think of new ways to lie about the republicans. She's sleazy.

No More BS

As a Democrat, Im embarrassed to have her speaking for my party. It's time to retire her, Mr. president

Stan Quake

Anyone 18 hrs old or above better ask one, SINGLE question.....do you want Obama care for your life and your family. It's not enough to vote for Romney, who will repeal Obamacare. You will need to vote out every democrat senator you can in order to get rid of Obamacare. Nothing else matters

John

Stan - you are the man.

Roy

She was misunderstood? Give me a break. DWS got caught in another lie, and apparently telling a blatant lie is perfectly acceptable to her.

wendell murray

Another example of an out of touch politician, with NO conscience.
She is so full of herself,(and something that should be flushed down the nearest toilet)she cannot see past her eyeballs.
Look at the lie that she has been living.
This idiot should be on a cartoon.
Solita,you should be her sidekick.

Florida_Guy

Shame on Debbie Wasserman Schultz for blatantly lying to voters in order to further her own career. Lying, misquoting, and misinforming on either side of the aisle is wrong. I hope Floridians recognize her disingenuity and vote her out come election time. (Although I think she should be penalized in some form or another for slander and defamation.) Democrats should also reprimand her for her actions. As a Jew, I am embarrassed by her behavior because as Jews, I feel, we should be particularly aware of the harmful and dangerous impact a lie can have. History has taught us this many times. And I hope no one decides to post something along the lines of "Ahah! She's Jewish. She lied. Therefore all Jews lie. Die Jew." Unfortunately, there are many who believe that. My point here is that there is too much rhetoric in politics. We need to have honest discussions, compromise, and avoidance of inflammatory remarks and lies that do not bring us closer to solutions.

OJ

This woman has one goal in life - to be the next Nancy Pelosi - with bad hair I may add. It is either unwashed or a ghetto version of Shirley Temple. The district in Florida that voted this woman into office should be ashamed of themselves. What more would you expect from NYC transplanted socialist idiots ? Go back to NY and live in the hooplah you all created. We don't need it here.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz has learned well from Barack Obama. She is just as good a liar as Obama. I am neither Democrat nor Repbulican but I would not join the Democrat party if only for the sleazy people who run the party: Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Stephanie Cutter and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Now that is a sleazy, slimy bunch.

Anderson Cooper is the best newsman on television. He doesn't let ANYONE, democrat or republican get away with lying. Erin Burnette is good too. Now if they would just get rid of Soledad O'Brien. She is in the same class as Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She is a slime bag.

Realist

Is it me or did DWS have a total makeover? Perm, teeth whitening and Botox are the obvious ones. Guess she (or her handlers) realized she would be on camera overtime this week and they wanted to make sure she looked her best. I bet the costs were covered by the DNC or her campaign.

Oh and kudos to Anderson Cooper for calling her out and to Marc Caputo for Blogging this story. Too bad we won't be reading a headline in the Miami Herald or any other newspaper that says "DNC chair caught misquoting newspaper in fundraising appeal to donors".

As a Republican, I find her fortitude -- despite all facts and logic -- to be admirable.

San Diego Independent Group

You did such a fantastic job to keep Debbie Wasserman Schultz honest. Anderson, I have to tell you if you keep too many liberals honest, CNN might get rid of you like they did it to Lou Dobbs.

Rutledge

Debbie's new and improved looks are pretty hot to me. But that's as far as it goes. She's one of those people I find very difficult to believe, even if she says she's just going down the hall to the bathroom. She is from the school that teaches, if you just state the same thing over and over and over (or something sort of roughly similar), that then everyone will just have to believe what you say is a "True Fact." In college, about less than intelligent women, a friend used to say, "She got no facts." Well, that pretty much sounds like DWS to me; she got no facts and maybe not much integrity, either, which is a bad combination.

Mr. Big Stuff

You have to get to the heart of the matter and forget all the trivial nonsense.

Republicans are like the Taliban. They are freaky reactionary zealots.

The GOP needs to just go away.

whasup

Mr. Big Stuff,

Did Debbie tell you to say that? Are you one of her loyal lying minions?

Look, everyone knows that the top party job--for either party--is to make the lopsided case for their pols.

But Debbie has gone so far into the ditz-land of utter disconnection from reality that now even the regular press, as opposed to the propaganda press, can't stand the lying, falsehood, and misleading garbage that spews out of her mouth.

Evidently, Debbie believes that facts don't matter. It's clear she was one of the worst mistakes that Obama and his top boys made in decided she should be the party boss.

Of course, any of us here in Florida who have known Debbie for years, knew that at the time they picked her. She only listens to herself and her little bubble of sycophants ... and that's is truly, really, very sad.

Robert

Every time I hear this women I can't wait to vote for Romney.

Finally!

Liberal hypocrisy HAS a name, it is Debbie Wasserman-Schultz! Kudos to Cooper Anderson for bringing it out.

Cap

Mr. Big Stuff has got to be kidding me. There is nothing out of bounds for the left. Lies don't matter any more. The ends justify the means every time. So long as Obama is re-elected, it doesn't matter how he gets there. Talk about zealotry, DWS is the poster child and all her followers are sycophants. She could be caught on camera robbing a bank, blowing a kiss to the security camera on her way out the door, and people like Big Stuff would have an excuse for her. Pathetic.

West FL Observer

Where's the huge difference. Both quotes attribute the platform's creation to Romney's campaign. The only difference is that the Times' quote simply says that Romney's delegates are voting down CHANGES to the platform written by Romney's campaign. So, it remains as Romney wrote it. His delegates are voting down efforts to change what he wrote.

Where's the misquote. I wonder if Cooper is searching for headlines with this. It's a non-story, other than the ridiculous platform positions written by Romney's campaign. Now, it seems he doesn't want to "own" it.

Can't have it both ways Willard.

honestmd

The truth does not matter? Just keep giving up more of our freedoms, and the govt will be the only "truth".

The True Believer

DWS is a fine American and great politician. She only tells lies to further an admirable and holy cause.

Can't Take Anymore

Who put the sand in Anderson's KY? He throws a major snit because he realizes a Democrat has seriously overstated something about the Republicans. The Republicans have been lying, distorting and obfuscating at full steam since well before Obama's election. He doesn't devote much time or energy to pointing out their many sins and omissions because he would collapse from exhaustion trying to keep up with them. Debbie blew it but she's right a lot more than she's wrong.

Lolo

In Romney's own words "planned parenthood, get rid of that". If Anderson would have let her speak instead of talking over her she would have had a chance to elaborate. There is no way to deny how Romney feels about women's rights!

Diamondmask

The GOP followers are so used to being lied to, I'm surprised that they can spot an out of context sound bite. Not that it makes it right, but she was only taking a play out of the GOP handbook.

Anyone who votes GOP has blinders on. If you think they give a crap about the common person, you're delusional. You do realize that Ryan voted for every freaking bill that came up to spend money under Bush? Now he says it's all Obama's fault. Good lord. At the set on this guy.

If R/R do manage to steal the election by not allowing blacks, young adults, old adults, and those that have trouble getting around to vote, you guys get what you deserve.

Loyal American

Only an idiot or moron would vote for the GOP whose only agenda is to make the rich..RICHER! It means nothing for them to throw the middle class under the bus.

edree

CNN actually reported the incident without prejudice to the republicans - I am astounded.
