Newly elected Broward Sheriff Scott Israel (D) sent a letter this week to Florida Senators Marco Rubio (R) and Bill Nelson (D) outlining his support for several gun control measures proposed by President Barack Obama. Israel called for reinstating and strengthening the assault weapons ban, closing the gun show loophole and adding 1,000 more resource officers and counselors in our nation's public schools. (The letter didn't contain any proposal for a specific number of school resource officers in Broward schools.)
Israel wrote that these measures will help curb gun violence without "putting an undue burden on our Second Amendment rights."
Decisive pronouncements like this quickly separate Scott Israel from the former corrupt Lamberti. Israel will surely draw comments on this from both sides of the aisle but you have to praise him for making the choice he feels is best for his community, stating it clearly and informing the public. I feel the next few years will be historic at BSO.

I am sure residents in Broward County will appreciate the opportunity to compete with the City of Chicago for gun related violence and deaths.
That said, I do not oppose his recommendations of additional school resource officers and closing the gun show loophole.

THIS IS PUTTING AN UNDUE BURDEN ON OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS. THE WHOLE THING WITH THE SECOND AMENDMENT IS TO MAKE SURE OUR GOV'T DOESN'T TRY AND TAKE AWAY OUR FREEDOM AND TO MAKE THIS INTO A DICTATORSHIP GOV'T. FRIST THEY TAKE AWAY THIS AND THEN THAT AND WE ARE LEFT WITH NO FREEDOM OF ANY KIND. SO WISE UP AMERICA, THEY DO HAVE A PLAN HOW TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

I worry about our second amendment rights here in broward, I guess he's going to try to restricts the import, sale and ownership of AR and AK rifles, which means,outside of the Law enforcement, all the gangs and criminals will have high powered rifles and will be able to out gun the law abiding citizens, thankyou Sheriff Scott Israel for restricting our ability to protect ourselves.
