Scott's dinner with Jeb, Thrasher was three-hour Gables gabfest

Gov. Rick Scott's hush-hush dinner with former Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. John Thrasher last Thursday at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables was a three-hour education talkfest. A detailed schedule shows the dinner was bracketed from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Palm D'Or Restaurant at the venerable Miami hotel in the former governor's hometown.

That left plenty of time for every form of edu-speak imaginable. State Board of Education Chairman Gary Chartrand also attended the dinner. No word on who picked up the tab, but The Buzz has a hunch: It might have been Scott or Thrasher because of the ban on on lobbyists wining and dining lawmakers. Bush's Foundation for Florida's Future lobbies Thrasher and other legislators as well as the executive branch, and Scott's office lobbies the Legislature, too.

Can't take anymore

Most interesting thing about this "meeting" is who won the wrestling match to pay the check. Lots of preaching to the choir and a few new ideas about how to defund public education and transfer the money to private sector and charter schools. I don't trust Thrasher, Scott or JEB! with the future of educating children in Florida. These Republicans have had over 20 years in power to implement their "education reforms" but I just don't see the any improvement.
