What a difference a few years -- and the addition of Miami son Carlos Lopez-Cantera to Scott's ticket -- makes.

Behind the scenes, the newly minted lieutenant governor worked now-Mayor Gimenez to back Scott publicly and to hold a joint fundraising event for him on March 6 in Coral Gables. Here's the fundraising email from Gimenez backer Rafael Garcia-Toledo:

Dear Friends,

We are honored to announce that Governor Rick Scott & "our home grown" Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera have chosen to hold there first joint fundraising event together here in Coral Gables. Also joining our event as a "Special Guest" will be Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, along with other members of the Miami-Dade County Commission. The event will take place at our home on March 6th at 6:30pm.

As I'm sure you know, this years election for Governor has become ever more important to our great states future. Our community will be forefront in this election, not only because we have over 1 million registered voters but because one of our own community leaders is now the Lt. Governor. This election is a first for Florida and our community. Vicky and I take great pride in supporting Carlos as we have throughout his political career.

There is much at stake in this election! I ask that you stand with us in supporting Lt. Governor Lopez-Cantera and Governor Scott as they lead our state to continued prosperity. LETS GET TO WORK!

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you are able to join us in this fundraising event.

Regards,

Vicky and Ralph Garcia-Toledo

As we have seen the people of florida initially doubted this political novice scott but he has won them over with his exemplary fiscal stewardship. These Miami political leaders were probably justified with their initial skepticism of a man like scott who never held political office but they are now fully supportive of an underestimated governor.

Can't take anymore

Now that late in his term Rick Scott has finally appointed a Cuban-American to a high profile (but do nothing) job he knows he can count on that community giving him their votes for re-election in 2014. After the election Rick will find something meaningful for Carlos to do, like mowing the lawn at the Gov's mansion.

Highly paid Reublican operative

Earns his spot ala fundraising?

Dear Ralph Garcia-Toledo,

It's spelled "their" not "there".

"We are honored to announce that Governor Rick Scott & "our home grown" Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera have chosen to hold there first joint fundraising event together here in Coral Gables."

$cott made Gimenez an offer he couldn't refuse. Gimenez knows that if he doesn't support $cott and $cott wins, Miami-Dade will get even less support from Tallahassee than it gets now. Gimenez is just hedging his bet by holding his nose and supporting $cott.
